Ve|da «VAY duh, VEE-», noun.

any one or all of the four collections of sacred Hindu writings in an early form or dialect of Sanskrit. They include Rigveda or hymns, Samaveda or chants, Yajurveda or sacred formulas, and Atharvaveda, later and more superstitious hymns.
